Things to do now

For all Anglican buildings you need to talk to the church team to arrange your ceremony.  They will be able to advise you about the legal requirements for your marriage.

Things to do now

Please contact a representative from your Place of Worship to arrange your ceremony.

They will advise whether you need to book a registrar to attend on the day.  If you are advised that a Registrar needs to attend your ceremony please contact us here.

There are strict restrictions on forming a marriage/ civil partnership outside the registration district where either or both of you live.

If both you and your partner live outside Cambridgeshire, you can only marry in a Place of Worship in Cambridgeshire if:

  • there is no Place of Worship of that denomination in either of your Registration Districts, AND the Place of Worship you have chosen is the closest geographically to where one of you lives. OR

  • one or both of you has a current and on-going connection through regular attendance at the Place of Worship.

Where neither situation applies you could consider creating a residency instead.  Click here for details.

4-6 months before your ceremony

Complete the legal requirements for your ceremony to proceed.  This is called giving notice of marriage or civil partnership.  The appointment will take place at a Registration office.  Further information and how to book can be found here.

Please also bear in mind that, from the date of your appointment, it will take at least 29 days to produce the documentation you require.  You will also need to consider postal delivery and in some cases, you may need to allow additional time to validate your documents before travelling.
